UAA Campus Services had a banner year of giving in 2024! For years, UAA Campus Service, which manages Seawolf Dining, Parking Services and other campus resources, has focused on supporting hunger and homelessness on the UAA campus.
"We have explored new ways to grow and exceeded our annual commitment to support the UAA Food Insecurity Fund by bringing back the Spirit Run, improving the "Parking for the Pantry" campaign, offering Swipe Away Hunger to residential diners, and, thanks to a very successful catering department, increasing its donation significantly this year. These efforts keep improving!” said Trenten Hall, Director of Seawolf Dining.
In September, the department kicked off the school year by raising nearly $3,000 through the UAA Spirit Run: Run Against Hunger. In November, it donated a record-breaking $8,578 from its one percent pledge from catering revenue in 2023 and hosted "Spoonful of Support," a free meal and panel discussion at Gorsuch Commons in partnership with the Brother Francis Shelter. Additionally, a team of Seawolf volunteers delivered food and served more than 100 guests at the Brother Francis Shelter that night. In December UAA partner Subway of Alaska made a generous $5,000 donation to the Food Insecurity Fund. The "Parking for the Pantry” campaign saw a $2,190 donation of parking citations to Food Pantry, and residential students donated 385 meal swipes through the Swipe Away Hunger program.
The department looks forward to continuing these efforts into 2025 and wishes to thank all who donated or participated in these efforts.
